At Brown Bluff, an adult Gentoo wanders down to the shoreline, as almost grown-up chicks run around trying to get a final feed from their parent.

Another Gentoo - note the distinctive tail, which categorises these penguins in the 'brush-tailed penguins' group, along with Adelies and Chinstraps.

|
The penguins here will probably have never seen humans before, and were often inquisitive, but certainly not scared of us.

A panoramic sweep of Brown Bluff, the only location we visited which was de facto on the Antarctic mainland.

A chick, moulting its fluffy feathers, is fed by a parent.
Soon the adults will all leave for the sea and the chicks will have to fend for themselves.
