Day 1 (Tuesday 26 August)

We took the train from Beverley, first class of course, and the tube to Leicester Square.
We headed just down the road to Trafalgar Square and found a nice cafe with a tempting selection of cakes.
Both of us chose the chocolate gateau, here it is, it came with a knife and fork and was absolutely delicious!
Me and Jane.
After a while we booked into the hotel, the Hub Premier Inn Covent Garden.
The rooms were small, a new concept with the bed filling the whole room and the en-suite behind.
It was comfortable and a great base for a discovery day in London.
The photo shows the main suburbs of London, many of them appearing on a Monopoly board.

On this evening we went to the Sondheim Theatre to see Les Miserables.
Afterwards we had a pint in the Salisbury, near the hotel and another one in the hotel bar.
Day 2 (Wednesday 27 August)

This was our full day to explore the sights of London.
Part 1 was on the hop on and off open top bus between The Strand and Westminster.
We passed St Pauls Cathedral and then came a view of the Shard as in this photo.
Crossing Tower Bridge, we were on the back seat of the tourist bus, not many other people joined us on a showery day.
Crossing Tower Bridge, with some of the skyscrapers in the scene, including the 'walkie talkie'.
Part of the Tower of London's outer wall.
The London Eye, on the south bank, opposite Westminster.
Tower Bridge with a nice view of the Shard.
Tower Bridge looking towards the north bank.
This classic view, which I've seen before is from the hill at the Greenwich Observatory with Canary Wharf's skyscrapers to the right and central London on the left.
Barges on the Thames, with the familiar cluster of tall buildings.
Westminster with Big Ben, which is actually the clock on the Elizabeth Tower.
The boat cruise we enjoyed starts and finishes from this location.
Jane and I did a walk to Picaddilly Circus to walk off the huge pies we'd both eaten.
This is a nice view of Regent Street as it curves away west from the Circus crossroads.
