A week's walking holiday with (aunty) Mary, John Taylor and Tod. The South West Coast path is a 630 mile route starting at Minehead in Somerset and finishing at Poole Harbour, Dorset. The chosen route was the 80 mile stretch between Padstow and St Ives, said to be one of the prettiest stretches of the SWC Path. We stayed at a different location most nights, the walking plan was for me and Tod to do the entire walk, with Mary and John doing parts of the path, but not walking on some days. As things turned out, I walked about 55 miles along the coast path in total, as I had to curtail day 4 and not walk at all on day 5. This was due to painful blisters which had developed under both my feet. (I will wear my leather boots in future). The scenery was varied, high paths on the cliffs, down into sandy coves and back up again, seeing vestiges of Cornwall's old tin mines, walking on roads, alongside railway lines, over sandy beaches and dunes, no day was the same. |
