A week's self-guided walking in the Western Highlands of Scotland. A group of 12 of us from Beverley and Hull Ramblers enjoyed a week up here. We stayed in the HF house 'Alltshellach' on the north shore of Loch Leven. I did 6 days of walking, then a free day on the last day, taking it easy for the long drive home. The weather was generally sunny with a cool breeze - perfect for walking. The walks were varied - coastal walking, along a canal, on Lismore island, along part of the West Highland Way and up a steep and challenging path to come to a hidden valley. Troup dynamics were great and the stay was comfortable. I came here back in 2008, when it was wet and several of us caught a bug before the end of the holiday. This time the week was much more enjoyable for many reasons. I did around 56 miles walking during the week. Locations are numbered by walk day on this map. I had stayed in a Premier Inn near Glasgow on Friday night on the way up, though next time I will drive all the way up in one day. |
