Northwest Passage, an expeditionary cruise from Alaska to Greenland

A voyage on the ship 'Hanseatic Inspiration' between Anchorage (Alaska) and Kangerlussuaq (Greenland).
The trip followed routes similar to those taken by european explorers in the nineteeth century, especially in the 1850s.
The purpose of these men was to find a navigable passage between Europe and Asia in the northern hemisphere.

The first 10 days were spent circumnavigating much of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, with very little ice encountered on land or sea in the first week or so.
The Canadian stretch was much more polar in nature, with sea ice often encountered, forcing the captain to navigate carefully and very slowly; here there were sightings of polar bears and whales.
Most of the sightings of icebergs were in the final stretch along Lancaster Sound and in Baffin Bay.
As we sailed west and north we increasingly saw the indigenous people, the Inuit, living and working in their original homeland.
In the last four days we explored towns and icefields on the west coast of Greenland, a sparsely populated and fascinating land.
